Learning it all again...

So, I really feel that starting to blog again will be good for me. It is, after all, an easy way to keep people from home and abroad up to date with my life. Facebook is great and all, but there is only so much I can convey on facebook. So, here I am, crawling meekly back to my blog.

First year at Wycliffe is almost over. Scary to even think about! Time has flown by, and I only have a month left here in Toronto. Wycliffe has been a mixture of things that I did and did not expect to find here. Year one was pretty damn rough, but things have been getting progressively better. I am really looking forward to next year. I have been chosen as 2nd year rep on the student council, and I will be serving on the Toronto School of Theology Ecumenical Worship Committee. It will be a great year, and I am looking forward to deepening relationships I have made here.

What is this summer looking like? Camp Medley, round 5! I am back to Medley for my second year as assistant director and my fifth year on staff. I am really excited for another summer at Medley, and I am in fact flying to New Brunswick in a week to be on the interviewing board. I have good feelings about Medley staff 2008.

That is all for now, but I assure you that I will be returning to this blog regularly in the days and weeks to come. I will leave you with an awesome song called In the Night. The song is by Basia Bulat. I love her, and you should love her too!

Inwardly digesting...

I went to an evening service at Little Trinity Anglican tonight. I think I have found a church that I will attend regularly on Sunday nights. A great service that was very multi-generational. A worship band that played beautifully and genuinely. Good teaching, and small group time to discuss the sermon! I like it a lot!

Christine, a second year here at Wycliffe, was preaching last night. She gave a great message about God's faithfulness, even when we have been unfaithful to Him.
My small group was... interesting. There was one man who was a very staunch conservative Lutheran. He was quite antagonistic to the woman in our group who was more of a liberal. She kept going on about not judging others, while he kept saying that we are supposed to judge each other's spirits.

He capped off the evening telling me all the things that were wrong with the service. He also shared with me that he will not take communion in any church but the Lutheran church, because in a Lutheran church everyone knows what they are receiving. He made my heart hurt. I hear a lot about the fights between extreme liberals and conservatives, but I have never seen it in church. It made it all the more real.

In happier news, I met a lovely little old Anglican lady. She was telling me that the church she attends on Sunday mornings is quite stuffy and is drying up. She says that she comes to the evening service at Little Trinity twice a month or so, to get filled up and take it back to her church. What a faithful grandma in the faith!!!

So, I am left inwardly digesting my Little Trinity experience. A wonderful experience that made me hurt for the Church.

Welcome to 3:26am

It is so late, and yet I cannot sleep. My sleep pattern has been off for a while, and now I have a lovely head cold. Prayer would be greatly appreciated.

In other news, I had a successful 24th birthday. The festivities included a great dinner at a Greek restaurant on the Danforth. The Danforth has been my latest Toronto discovery, many thanks to Leah and Katie! There is nothing persay extra special about the Danforth... I just like the atmosphere.

Classes are going well. I have never had this much reading to do in all my life. In science there is reading, but we never critically discussed things in class. I never had to wrap my head around the material enough to be able to form my own opinion on it, let alone defend an opinion on it. So, this program is stretching me... but I love it! I really believe that this is where I am supposed to be right now.

I have been watching the show "Big Love" lately. Wow, what a show! It is based around a family who is practicing polygamy in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, Utah. There is the father, his three wives, and their 7 (another on the way) children. It is a very interesting show, because as much as I don't believe in polygamy as a valid lifestyle choice, I always end up taking the family's side during their trials and tribulations. It is a great show, give it a watch.

I guess that is all for now... I will leave you with a few photos.

Accidental interwho

So, here I am in Second Cup on Bloor Street... somehow using the wireless connection from the Hyatt hotel next door. I like it a lot. Second Cup is a wireless hotspot, but you have to pay for the wireless. I mean really... who is gonna pay for wireless in Second Cup unless they really need it?
I am currently reading and analyzing The Martyrdom of Perpetua. What a story! I have a paper due this Tuesday on this very document. Look it up if you haven't heard of it.
Ummmm, I have been keeping myself very busy. A few recommendations:
1) If you are looking for a great movie, check out "Paris, je t'aime". Great movie with a great cast and a whole bunch of directors. This movie is in theatres, but probably not in New Brunswick. Toronto has a plethora of international films.
2) Going to Second Cup anytime soon? Try the new Pumpkin Spice Chiller and the Caramel Apple Chiller. Sooooo good!
3) And finally... I really love Camp Medley. So, here is my fav photo of the entire summer. It sums up my summer as assistant director quite well.

The triumphant return!

Well hello folks! I have decided that the beginning of my life in Toronto shall also mark the beginning of my return to the blogging world. I have so many stories and photos to share... where to start?
I am living in Toronto now, attending Wycliffe College and working toward my Master of Divinity. I took the train from Moncton on September 1st and arrived in Toronto on September 2nd.

Toronto is such a huge city! I have been having an awesome time exploring though. My college is right downtown on the UofT campus. There are many sights within a 5 minute walk of my campus.

I have been awed by my college too. It is a beautiful school, built in the late 1800's. I will add photos at a later date, as this post is already filled with photos.
Anywho, I will update more soon. Peace!

I am slowly going crazy...

.adam. says:
hey jessie
.adam. says:
hmmm, you are not there. maybe you are on your roof, playing music to noone in particular.
.adam. says:
or maybe you are playing music to Jesus
.adam. says:
or maybe you aren't playing music at all. maybe you are doing something totally different.
.adam. says:
maybe i am having a conversation with myself, cause i have absolutely lost it. maybe that is what is going on here.
.adam. says:
i think it is. i think i have lost it and will never again be able to regain it. cause i have lost it and it won't come back.
.adam. says:
"Here mind! Come back my little bit of sanity that I had left!" is what I yell, in hopes that it will return to me.
.adam. says:
But it doesn't. It hides in some dark corner, wagging it's little tail, thinking we are playing hide-and-seek or some other trivial game.
.adam. says:
So I sit... and wait... and wait... and hope that it will come back when it gets bored of this game. If it doesn't come back, I don't know what will happen........

And I am awaiting a reply from Ms. Curwin.
